About Us

Hadassah Emet Architects was founded in November, 2015, from a genuine passion to offer sustainable architectural design and construction solutions to people living in the Urban and rural context. Our designs are socially inclusive, we design from a perspective of Regionalism and Performativity examining the cultural practices of the people with the aim of identifying new design solutions that emerge from an in-depth knowledge of the local context.
We are the first Architectural firm in Nigeria to promote 'AGRITECTURE' in our designs. Food insecurity has become a reality for some people living in cities due to many socio-economic and environmental factors and the rapid rate of urbanisation calls for a holistic and sustainable transformation of city models to accomodate food production using a sustainable architectural approach and the concept of architectural innovations which will also go a long way in ensuring a healthy environment.
The use of traditional material in some of our projects as well as the improvement of local building techniques really makes the projects successful as it reflects the architecture of the context area in response to culture, craftsmanship and economic power. To have a more durable structure and to minimise the running cost of the structure, we offer facility management services to our clients.
HEA renders services to private clients, corporate organisations and NGOs. Some of our designs include; high end to average and low income residences, commercial, industrial, hospitality and institutional projects and several charitable works.
We believe in creating spaces that reflect and support the activities of the people who live and work there.

Founder and CEO

JESSICA GERNA

B.sc Architecture, MArch, M.sc Global Food Security and Development.
Faced with a decision, in the winter of 2014, to choose a topic for her thesis as a postgraduate student pursuing a masters degree in Architecture at the University Of Lincoln, UK , all Jessica could think of was “Food Security”. Seemed weird to some, but not to Jessica who grew up with parents who where both professionals in their fields and who also intentionally practiced agriculture because they understood the importance of food security.
Unfortunately the culture of people around the world in regards to growing their own food has changed. Vegetable and fruit gardens have gradually disappeared, Climate change and sociopolitical crises has caused a great reduction in food production. For this reason Jessica adopted a strategy called 'AGRITECTURE', this is a term she uses to describe the combination of Agriculture and Architecture which is what her firm promotes. She consciously include spaces for growing food right from the conceptual stages of her designs. Adopting this concept holds a lot of potential for ensuring food security especially in the urban context. Jessica would like to contribute to combating the problem of Food Insecurity using the skills she has as an Architect. She has also gained more skills in the area of Global Food Security and development, to be able to carry out strategic interventions appropriate for any given context.
Jessica is also a firm believer in acquiring more knowledge and skills to better equip yourself to contribute to the challenges faced in societies, therefore she also offers educational consultancy services to people that want to study Abroad. See link www.hadassahemetconsultancy.com.ng
Social, economic, cultural and environmental sustainability is key to her design process, therefore she also manufactures Interlocking Compressed Earth Brick which is highly recommended to clients because its environmentally freindly, durable, flexible, and aesthetically appealing.
